On the weekend of 29 to 30 March 2025, the Sitter Bridge weighing around 107 tons returned to its original location on the Appenzell Viaduct – and EMIL EGGER was right in the middle of it as a specialist for demanding heavy assembly and crane work.

After extensive renovation work on the over 120-year-old steel truss bridge, which was dismantled in spring 2024, it has now been successfully reinstalled. The bridge was lifted into place during a 50-hour closure of the Teufen-Appenzell railroad line, during which replacement buses were also in use.

Millimeter work with precision and experience
The reinstallation of the Sitter Bridge placed the highest demands on everyone involved. EMIL EGGER once again deployed two powerful large cranes to fit the 50-metre-long bridge exactly into its final position on the 300-metre-long Appenzell viaduct. The exact positioning to the final position was particularly challenging – a complex process that required precise coordination and many years of experience.

A big thank you to the client, Appenzeller Bahnen, our contractor Schneider Stahlbau AG and the engineers from Gruner AG and Bänziger & Partner AG for the trust they have placed in us.
We would also like to thank all those involved in the project and in particular our heavy goods logistics team members, who contributed to the successful outcome with their commitment and expertise.
