185 tons of Reuss bridge on the hook

LR 11000 in use in Lucerne

On the weekend of 22/23 March 2025, a significant milestone was reached in the renovation of the Reussbrücke Fluhmühle bridge in Lucerne: the first of three bridge sections was successfully lifted out - an impressive 185 tons of steel were suspended from the 1000 t crawler crane with an 84 m jib!

The bridge, which is over 100 years old, will be given new corrosion protection by fall 2027. To this end, all elements will be dismantled one by one, processed at the installation site near the highway junction and then reinstalled.

A special highlight: the specially constructed auxiliary bridge (164 tons) was installed immediately after the excavation, so that train traffic was able to run smoothly again after an interruption of only 50 hours.

A huge thank you for the trust placed in our client SBB/CFF/FFS and the planners at Synaxis AG.

We are proud of everyone involved, the precise planning and the successful completion of the project. We’ll continue in November with the next bridge section!
