Installation of 350 tons of components in a narrow steel structure via crane

Waste disposal company ZAB Bazenheid replaces furnace and boiler of an incineration line

The ZAB Bazenheid ensures waste disposal in the region. After 35 years of operation, the furnace and boiler of a combustion line had to be replaced. Martin GmbH für Umwelt- und Energietechnik manufactured the new plant. The logistical challenge of finally lifting 350 tons of custom-made components into an existing steel structure, which allows only a few centimeters of clearance on both sides, lay with EMIL EGGER. The installation was carried out under high deadline pressure during ongoing operation. The production downtime of the incineration line should be kept as short as possible.

“Waste incineration plants have to operate reliably around the clock and the delivery of waste must not be interrupted. In the case of the replacement delivery for the third furnace line of the Bazenheid waste incineration plant, this criterion was very important and the steam boiler had to be lifted into the existing boiler building within one weekend. From the initial idea to the precise delivery and lifting of the boiler parts, everything was in one hand with the Egger team. Competent, precise, reliable down to the smallest detail. A masterpiece”.

One of the most modern and, above all, largest cranes in Europe was used for the heavy assembly within a few days. The LR 11000 from Liebherr. For unloading and vertical positioning of the boiler parts from the trucks and attaching them to the crawler crane, another crane was needed, the so-called tracking crane.

The transport of the 1000 ton crane alone required 30 trucks. The components for the new plant were transported by a total of 4 low-bed trailers, the longest of which was 43 m long.

Replacement of three old RHB steel bridges by ETE crane logistics
Not far from the fashionable spa and resort town of St. Moritz in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, a Liebherr LR 11000 crawler crane has installed a 176-ton railroad bridge. This most powerful crawler crane in Switzerland belongs to the logistics and transport company EMIL EGGER AG and got the job done at an altitude of just under 2,000 meters in the Alps – with an unusual setup configuration due to lack of space. In total, three aged truss bridges of the Rhaetian Railway were replaced by the Liebherr crane.

The dam is a double-curved arch dam with a volume of about 215,000 cubic meters of concrete. By the end of the 2021 construction season, around 35,000 cubic meters of concrete have been used, which means that around 16 percent of the wall has been built.
