The three occupants of the passenger car suffered moderate to severe injuries. Despite being secured with a St. Andrew’s cross, the driver drove over the level crossing and collided with the train. This caused the railcar to jump off the tracks.
Fortunately, there were only a few passengers on the train and no one was injured. The train driver received psychological care after the shock.
The damage to the Appenzeller Bahn is estimated at several hundred thousand francs. In order to be able to resume operations, EMIL EGGER was commissioned for the recovery. The emergency operation went smoothly and the Appenzell railroads were able to resume operations on the same day.
