EMIL EGGER helps build trimodal transshipment terminal in Basel

Rhenus Port Logistics is investing in a new transshipment terminal in the Rhine port of Basel-Kleinhünigen. EMIL EGGER was entrusted with the logistics of the prefabricated concrete elements.

With a total area of 7,300 m², five hall sections and lots of modern technology, the new Terminal 4 is being built in the Rhine port of Kleinhünigen. In the trimodal terminal, goods will soon be handled by five overhead cranes with a lifting capacity of up to 32 tons, excavators, forklift trucks, a rail receiving dock for bulk goods and modern rail and truck scales for onward transport by road, rail or water. Due to the large overhang of the crane runway girders, huge, prefabricated concrete girders are required for the handling logistics of shipping in particular.

Our team was deployed with two LR crawler cranes and two LTM mobile cranes to tackle the local challenges.

Among other things, the LR 1250 removed the 64-tonne diagonal supports manufactured on site and moved them within the construction site.

The LR 11000 moves a girder with a gross weight of 211 tonnes at a radius of 59 metres.

With V-Frame, the ballast radius can be reduced quickly and easily for confined construction sites.

An LTM 1350-6.1 tilts the removed diagonal supports to the correct angle so that they can then be lifted into place.

The diagonal supports cantilever freely over the water and will later accommodate the crane runway girders.

Closing the gap: The LTM 1650-8.1 assembled the last bone girders.
